Yerbe Mate

Yerbe Mate Latte and Making Concentrate

I love the calm energy and clarity you get from a good cup of Yerba Mate tea and it is very healing and beneficial for you.  Coffee makes me feel jittery and usually I get major adrenal fatigue if I have more than a couple cups a week.

Yerba Mate (pronounced YER-ba  MAH-tay)  and Green Tea share lots of the same health benefits like antioxidants, polyphenols, flavenoids, bioflavenoids and theophylline.  However, Yerba Mate has 52 more active compounds than Green Tea.  Yerba Mate has and impressive 196 active compounds compared to the 144 in Green Tea.

  • 6 cups purified water
  • 1/4 cup Yerba Mate leaves
  • 1 TBSP vanilla
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or coconut sugar

Bring water to a boil then turn down to a low simmer.  Add Yerbe Mate and let simmer 20 minutes.  Take of burner and let cool a bit.  I store mine in a mason jar.  Pour through strainer with a coffee filter in so you don’t get small floating leaves.  add the sweetner and vanilla.  Put lid on shake and refrigerate.  Add with 1/2 cup Almond milk, Coconut milk or Hemp milk to 1/2 cup yerbe mate concentrate over ice and enjoy.   Add more maple syrup or coconut sugar if needed : )

Making Yerba Mate in a french press.

  • Add 4-5 heaping teaspoons of Green Energy Yerba Mate to bottom of french press.
  • Purified Water – pour enough over to cover it.  This is preparing Yerba Mate for hot water and let sit for 1 minute.
  • Now pour in hot water up to 1 inch below top and let sit for 3 minutes for medium brew and 5 minutes for strong.  Make sure all mate is in the water and wet, push down lightly with a spoon.
  • Cover with plate while sitting.
  • You are ready to use the presser.  Slowly press the mate down.  You can drink hot or over ice.  Add sweetner, Almond milk, cinnamon or whatever sounds good!
